Field Sessions bring the map to you
A facilitated gathering where neighbors and family share where their people came from and watch their lines light up one shared map. Join from a church hall, a library, a reunion, or a video call. Every point is a person. Every line is a family.
How a session works
Ninety minutes, one shared map
A trained facilitator guides the room, in person or over video. You bring your memories. No documents, no research, no preparation required.
Gather & join
Everyone joins the session from their own phone or laptop with a simple room code. No account, no app to install. The facilitator opens the room and welcomes the circle.
Map your line
Guided prompts walk you through three generations: where your grandparents lived, the work your parents did, the decade you were born. Answer what you know and skip what you don’t.
Watch it light up
As each person finishes, their line rises onto the shared map. It becomes a living picture of how far the whole community has come, together.
Where sessions happen
Anywhere your people gather
Field Sessions are designed for the places communities already come together, including online.
Your living room
Gather your friends and family at home and map your line together over an evening.
Family reunions
Map your whole family’s line in one afternoon, elders and grandkids side by side.
Libraries
A public program that turns local history into a living, community-built map.
Churches & centers
Congregations and community centers hosting circles of shared remembrance.
Museums
Gallery programs where visitors add their own lines to the story on the walls.
Virtual circles
Many sessions happen over video, joining family and community across cities and time zones.
Bring a session to your community
Host a Field Session
We bring the facilitator, the map, and the materials. You bring the people, in a room or on a call. Sessions run about ninety minutes and work best for groups of 5 to 25.
